Jim Spencer aka: Maui Jim

  • Note this event will be a Birthday/camping/fresh hop throw down, Bring your potato cannons and ill behaved dogs (bola almost got a cat the last go around, Just kidding I'm leaving mine at home)
  • Recipe - Malt= 27lbs NW pale ale malt, 1.75lbs wheat, 1.75lbs organic crystal 60, 1.75lbs organic cane sugar.

Hops= 4oz Nelson Sauvin MH, 4oz Amarillo FWH, 4oz Magnum 60 min, 4oz Amarillo 10 min, 4oz Amarillo flame out. Stats= OG 1.082/FG 1.016/9 SRM/136 IBU -BT

I'd like to get some thought started on the recipe we'll be brewing that day. I will have ripe hops on the vine by then. So, obviously we'll have to make a Fresh Hop or Harvest Ale. I like the idea of an Imperial IPA...no better way to show off hop flavor than an Imperial IPA. Anybody out there got a recipe we can start with and build on? mauijim 02Jun: I expect to have a lot of Nugget and Cascade available for the wet hop brew. Should also be some Centennial,Newport and a little Zeus. mauijim

I'm willing to bring some beers and a jockey box out to this event. I actually had a couple of Hawaiian themed beers in my brewing line up over the next couple of months - a passion fruit wheat beer, a chocolate macadamia nut porter, and a skunky IPA that I shall rename Maui Wowie in Jim's honor. I will bring at least one ill-behaved dog. We should roast a pig and all wear funny Hawaiian style shirts-. An Imperial IPA would be ideal, then we can bring it to Hop Madness and wow the crowds. We'd need at least two pounds of fresh hops for this beer. Alpha Fish anyone? - BT

I'll bring a keg of pale ale and some yard games. Evan

Hey Guys- very important: I need a head count on how many mouths I'll need to feed .. so .. Please respond here or email me directly at mauijim39@gmail.com (sorry I don't know how to make link). Or you call me at 541-604-4122.

So, we will be having burgers & hot dogs with broccoli slaw, chips, etc for lunch and Hawaiian style ribs and chicken for dinner .. eggs and pancakes for breakfast. Besides all the homebrew we'll be having margaritas and softdrinks.

Here's what to bring: sunscreen,hat.sunglasses. Mosquito Repellant CHAIRS!!! Tents, sleeping bags, etc

Besides lawn games and frisbee golf I plan some farmer style competitions that will test your brawn and endurance. After dark we can sit around the fire pit and make up some 'smores and shoot off the potato cannnon

Aloha Jim

  • Recipe Denny Conns' Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter
  • yeast propagation I could use some help with this. The recipe calls for 1056, but I'm not sure that is the best yeast for this style. Either way, at an anticipated OG of 1.077, a starter should be used.
  • Ingredients

1.5 oz Magnum 60min .75 oz East Kent Goldings 10 Min

Gary Wirt

It was decided at the Xmas party meeting that we would do the January group brew at my place, Saturday Jan 9, 2010.(Gary)

  • Recipe A lager? I love them, but have been known to drop them on the floor :)

I don't drop porters. :) (Gary)

Address: 2840 NW Lakemont Drive, Bend, OR 97701. From Skyliners Road/Mt. Washington roundabout, south to 1st right onto Hosmer Lake Drive (The Reserve at Broken Top); to 1st right onto Champanelle Way; to 1st left onto Lakemont Drive. 3rd house on right.

  • Food

It will probably be cold outside. So I'm thinking about doing a fairly spicy 'Narlins red beans & rice made with Andouille sausage, smoked pork chops, jalapenos, garlic, spices, etc, etc. I think it would warm folks up a bit.(Gary)

Jalapenos corn bread (Brian)

Great. I can probably do a shrimp appetizer. Cajun food with beer requires shrimp. ...and we will need a 'Orleans jazz band...or perhaps Zydeco (i.e.real swamp music). (Gary)

  • Misc

Stay warm: All are welcome to use the house to warm up. Although the garage is usually warm enough, it's nice to relax by the fire. Bring yourself, spouse, friend, kids, or whatever. If you are not enjoying the experience, have a home brew.

Dogs: Use your own discretion. Not in the house please, and they must be on a leash if outside. The neighborhood is sensitve about this and has issued citations. Yes, a "dog at large" citation can be issued by an individual, not necessarily police. Base fine is $357.

  • I'll be putting together a recipe for a Pale Ale sometime this week. I'll update ya'll with the specifics when that moment happens.
  • Yeast will be an American Ale 1056 smack pack (unless anyone has some they'd like to bring?)
  • Ingredients TBA
  • Directions

559 SE Reed Market Rd.

Link: <http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=559+SE+Reed+Market+Rd&sll=44.038913,-121.298009&sspn=0.00816,0.01929&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=559+SE+Reed+Market+Rd,+Bend,+Deschutes,+Oregon+97702&ll=44.039849,-121.29801&spn=0.00816,0.01929&z=16&iwloc=A>

The house is a bit difficult to find. If you're coming south on 3rd and make a left on Reed Market you will pass the two bridges that cross the irrigation canal and the road will begin to turn right. At that point you will begin to pass the longest bush in Bend. Our house is immediately after the bush. Across the street is an undeveloped community. If you have any difficulties finding the place please contact me @ 678-5593.

  • Food

It will be a pizza party. I'll provide the toppings, dough and sauce. You bring shredded cheese! We'll have some pre-made or you can make it to your likings. Also, feel free to bring salad, or other finger foods.

  • Beer

I should have an IPA on tap, assuming I can get it carbonated in time.

  • Extras

Dogs are welcome, we've got a big, fenced yard. My brewing goes on in the unheated garage so bring your jackets. However, the house is heated for those who need to escape any of the rigid temperatures we may experience.
